Britt’s buzzing to boost the Bees

Former Championship striker Britt Assombalonga is relishing the chance to help Harborough Town settle into National League North life.

The Leicestershire outfit have enjoyed three promotions in five years to reach Step 2 for the first time.

Capturing former Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough forward Assombalonga is a statement of intent by boss Mitch Austin.

“It’s been a long time since I played Non-League,” said the DR Congo international, 33, who has notched up approaching 500 career appearances and scored 173 goals. “It was enjoyable times at Wealdstone and Braintree on loan, and for me it makes sense to be here.

“With my experience in the game, I will hopefully bring a lot to the boys.”

The Bees open up at King’s Lynn next Saturday before hosting former EFL side Morecambe on August 15.

“I want to get my fitness up and be ready for the start of the season,” added Assombalonga, who played for Barnet last term. “Every game will be different, but everyone will work their socks off.”
