A late Dean Freeman own goal, a missed penalty and a man-of-the-match performance from visiting keeper Liam Higton meant Carlton Town had to settle for a point.
Lamin Manneh put the Millers ahead after 15 minutes when his shot was deflected into the net by Grimsby’s Tom Jamieson after a defence-splitting pass from Nat Watson.
Watson had the chance to put the home side two goals ahead shortly afterwards when he was brought down for a penalty but Higton saved his tame spot kick.
