■ IN a desperately poor game, a spirited young City of Liverpool side easily kept the home side at bay, before fatigue and Clitheroe’s superior quality finally showed.
Clitheroe had half-a-dozen clear-cut chances in the first half, but goalkeeper Conor Robson kept Leon Creech and Like Gill at bay with smart saves.
The second half was even more devoid of chances, but with the host taking advantage of fresh legs, they finally broke the deadlock after 80 minutes when sub Ntumba Massanka latched on to a through ball and scored.
