AFC Whyteleafe 2 Carshalton Athletic 3

Carshalton Athletic ran out victors against newly promoted Step 4 team AFC Whyteleafe in an entertaining game which kicked off both teams’ pre-season programme.

Match Action

Both teams started the first half well.

Whyteleafe hit the crossbar on 17 minutes and Carshalton followed suit five minutes later.

Three minutes before the half-time whistle, Fabio Saraiva, with some wizardry, spectacularly bent a free-kick into the Whyteleafe goal.

Carshalton started the second half hungry for more, pressing well, and this paid off.

A misplaced pass allowed the Robins to attack and Bryan Ifeanyi superbly lobbed Nathan Boamah in goal.

Whyteleafe responded well to the goal. They maintained control of possession, but hit the bar again.

Clinical Carshalton, however, struck again to extend their lead.

Following on, Robins starlet Ifeanyi was fouled just outside the box and Saraiva’s free-kick was turned into his own net by a defender.

This proved to be the motivation needed for Whyteleafe to fight back.

Ryan Gondoh went on a great run and found the feet of debutant Eniola Hassan who was able to slot home.

Whyteleafe had control and Dan Bennett scored a second, but Leafe were not able to find an equaliser with the game ultimately ending in a victory for Carshalton in what was a well contested game.
