Just 64 days earlier, Harry McGee’s goal had secured promotion as champions from the Northern Premier League’s West Division to the competition’s top flight – a historic high for the club.
In the meantime, manager Michael Ellison resigned and plans were shelved to build a ground of their own on an 18acre site in the Cheshire town.
