Maxwell Mullins has left Aldershot Town by mutual consent to reunite with former manager Tommy Widdrington at Eastbourne Borough.

The 22-year-old is a true utility player, equally at home as a full-back on either flank, a commanding centre-back, or even playing up front out wide!

Mullins climbed the ranks through the Shots academy before making his senior breakthrough in 2022, following a successful loan spell at Leatherhead.

By the start of the 2023/24 season, he had cemented himself as a regular in Aldershot’s first team.

Energetic

He departs having played a pivotal role in Aldershot’s historic first-ever trip to Wembley, lifting the Isuzu FA Trophy under the guidance of now-Eastbourne boss Widdrington.

Reflecting on reuniting with a familiar manager, Mullins told the club’s YouTube channel: “It’s a massive factor. With myself, I’m quite a chilled person, quite laid back.

“With the gaffer, I do like to bring my energy out and he does know that’s how to get the best out of me.

“Especially at my previous club, Aldershot. I was just very energetic. I wanted the team to always win and I’ll put my maximum effort into helping the team win as much as possible.

“Whether that is playing up in the back, out wide [or] up front. Predominantly, I hope to play up front at this club.

“That’s what I have spoken with the gaffer. But like I said, I’m happy to help the team out wherever possible and just try [to give] 110%.”

Chemistry

There is also a reunion with winger Kai Corbett, who also joined his former manager at Boro at the end of last month.

“We had a whole year together,” Mullins added. “And previously, we was at Reading together for four years when we was younger. We was there, we went on tour in Portugal together.

“I’ve known Kai for a really long time, since I was probably about seven. So me and Kai have always really kept in touch.

“We did have that chemistry at Aldershot.”

Mullins took to social media to thank the Shots fans, writing: “Just wanted to say that my time here was a brilliant time, the rollercoaster ride was amazing and the end of last season to top it off was amazing, the fans have been great the whole time and I wish you the best of luck after UTS.”

The Sports face a long journey to Torquay United this weekend, with Widdrington continuing to spark a revival to lift the club out of the relegation zone.
