Radcliffe reject approach for joint managers Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley

Radcliffe FC have slammed the brakes on interest in their managerial duo, Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley.

The National League North club confirmed on Thursday afternoon that an approach had been made to prize away the pair.

Johnson and Morley have spearheaded Boro’s promotion push this season, and despite a recent dip in form, the Boro currently sit in a play-off spot.

The club have moved quickly to shut down any speculation surrounding the duo’s futures, stressing that both remain fully committed.

Rejected

“We can confirm that an approach has been made regarding Managers Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley, and wish to make clear that this approach has been formally rejected,” a statement from the club declared.

“Both Managers remain fully committed to their current roles, and we hold Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley in the highest regard, valuing the incredible ongoing work they continue to deliver.

“As such, no discussions or negotiations will be entered into, and no further comment will be made at this time.”

Surprise

While speculation from supporters suggests the interest may have come from Bury FC, possibly hoping to benefit from Johnson’s ties to the club as a fan, Radcliffe’s board made it clear the pair are staying put.

The Shakers would be attempting to lure both with a surprise drop down the Non-League ladder to take over the vacant managerial role following Dave McNabb’s move upstairs to head of football operations.

McNabb stepped down as manager to take on his new role, a move that surprised the Bury faithful.

He had masterminded the club’s North West Counties League title-winning campaign last season and had them fourth in the Northern Premier League West at the time of his departure.

Interim boss Tim Lees takes charge ahead of Saturday’s trip to Shifnal Town.
