Silkmen call on Curle to lead the way

Macclesfield believe Keith Curle’s varied skill-set made him the perfect choice to become their new chief executive.

ALL-ROUNDER: Keith Curle

Macclesfield believe Keith Curle’s varied skill-set made him the perfect choice to become their new chief executive.

The National League North club announced the appointment of the 62-year-old former England international in midweek, highlighting how he can have an impact across the board.

The ex-Manchester City and Wolves defender has had a lengthy career in management, including leading Northampton Town to promotion from League Two in 2019-20.

Alongside that, he has operated a property development company as well as running a sports management firm. He is also a League Managers Association mentor.

Macc say Curle will ‘spearhead the club’s long-term strategic and commercial vision’.

The club explained: “Keith will take overall control of all operational matters and report directly into the board of directors.

“Off the pitch, his proven commercial background gives the club a leader who understands financial sustainability at every level.

“In addition to this, Keith’s impact will be beneficial on the pitch, as his intimate understanding of the football pyramid means he can seamlessly support our recruitment department, mentor the coaching staff, and ensure the sporting infrastructure is built to meet EFL standards.”

The Silkmen will hope Curle can provide stability at the top of the club following a recent turbulent period.

Founder and co-owner Rob Smethurst was ‘temporarily relieved of all duties’ by the board of directors following his arrest last month on suspicion of controlling and coercive behaviour, allegations which he denies.

He was then quickly reinstated following clear-the-air talks with his fellow directors.
