Seven days into the 2002-03 campaign, Yeovil Town’s billing as favourites for the Conference title looked laughable.
A fortunate 2-2 draw in the curtain raiser against Dagenham & Redbridge had been followed by a limp 2-1 reverse away at Barnet.
To make matters worse, manager Gary Johnson’s insistence on a pristine new surface – his reward for the previous year’s FA Trophy win – meant the Glovers next four home games would be played 20 miles away in Dorchester whilst the Huish Park pitch was relaid.
