■STAMFORD’s dismal start to the season continued with a narrow defeat courtesy of a Brandon Smalley goal which gave the hosts their first victory of the campaign.
The hosts dominated in front of 599 fans with Charlie Lutz failing to convince the referee to award a penalty as he tumbled in the area in the opening minute. Lutz flashed an inviting centre across goal seven minutes later but couldn’t pick out a teammate and only an impressive one-handed stop by Stamford keeper James Goff, in the 25th minute, denied Harry Burns and kept The Daniels in it.
