manager Dennis Greene says the club’s slow start to the season is ‘alarming’ but concedes he is fighting an uphill battle with a ‘bottom-six budget’.

The Pilgrims have made the play-offs in each of the past two seasons but have not been able to win promotion to ‘s top tier.

Greene had a busy summer of recruitment and his new look squad have gelled slower than the boss would have liked.

Boston have won one, drawn one and lost five of their opening seven league fixtures with their only victory of the campaign coming at home against .

The ex- and manager admits the club’s start is far from ideal but suggests that expectations have risen too much after two successful seasons.

“Let’s get one thing clear, I don’t believe for a minute we will be relegated out of this league,” Greene told the Lincolnshire Echo.

“Us making the play-offs for the last two seasons with a bottom-six budget is like West Ham or Stoke getting in the Champions League.

“I am not concerned about relegation because I believe there are too many teams worse than us for us to be dragged into that.

“But we expect to compete at the other end of the table. Our fans have become accustomed to battling for promotion, so this is alarming to me for that reason.”
