A series of serious injuries have forced defender Andy Sambrook to hang up his boots.

The 33-year-old has spent the past three seasons with Conference South club but a chronic ankle problem has led him to the decision to end his playing career.

Sambrook, who had spells with Gillingham, Rushden, Grays, Athletic, Thurrock and AFC Wimbledon prior to joining Welling in 2009, made 75 league appearances for the Wings.

A statement on the club’s website said: “Everyone at Welling would like to thank Andy for all he has done for the club and wish him the best of luck in the future.”
