ST ALBANS CITY saw a big improvement on the pitch on Tuesday night but have been rocked by the sudden resignation of secretary Steve Eames.

Harry Wheeler took charge for the 5-0 Herts Senior Cup victory over Spartan South Midlands side Oxhey Jets after joint-managers James Gray and Graham Golds resigned.

Wheeler went with a much changed line-up but the Saints responded well to ease into the third round of the competition.

However, the club suffered some more off field disruption after long-serving secretary Eames stepped down on Tuesday.

The former postman has served the National League South club for 25 years in various positions and was also responsible for the Clarence Park pitch.

The Saints are expected to hand the role of secretary, at least temporarily, to 23-year-old Tom Norman, who is currently commercial manager.
