Chairman and vice-chair quit Bishop’s Stortford

BISHOP'S STORTFORD are looking for a new chairman and vice-chairman after the resignations of Luigi Del Basso and John Turner.

Chief Del Basso had been involved with the South club since 1999 and had served as chairman for 12 years.

Turner's involvement with the Blues goes back 30 years and he had been a director since 2009 and vice-chairman for two years.

The duo have resigned as directors with immediate effect but have agreed to continue their support as club officials until the end of the current season.

Turner claims personal attacks both written and on social media are the reason for his departure with some Blues fans also questioning the way the club is run by Del Basso and the rest of the board.

Del Basso said: “It has been a fabulous 17 year journey, from getting involved when building funds were required in 1999 to becoming a director in 2000 and chairman in 2004, two promotions and everything in between.”

Turner added: “It's been a fantastic 30 years with the club at Woodside Park and Rhodes Avenue, but when your personal integrity is challenged and physical threats are made it's time to move on.

“I will hopefully still be a frequent visitor to matches next season and will still help out on match days if required, I wish the club well for the future.”
