Huck Nets 2018 Goal of the Season goes to Daniel Dubidat (Alvechurch)
Daniel Dubidat claimed he wouldn’t be able to score a better goal even in a game of FIFA on the PlayStation upon accepting the award for his stunning effort against Sheffield FC.
In Alvechurch colours Dubidat produced three touches of sheer brilliance to steer home a late match-winner when scores were tied at 2-2.
A long, hopeful ball forward from goalkeeper Lewis Gwilliams was controlled by Dubidat with his back to goal, where he then kept the ball off the ground with a touch on his thigh to set up the volley that would leave the opposition stopper rooted to the spot.
“It was crazy, to be fair,” said Dubidat, now of Rushall Olympic. “When I hit it, I knew it was a good goal from the reaction everyone made but you never really realise until afterwards the effect that it’s had.
“At the time, you score a goal like that, a last-minute winner, you just think: ‘I’ve won the game’ and you don’t think about what’s going to happen after that.”
Pandemonium over his volley would follow on social media with even a certain England legend praising the wonder-goal as the mania took his goal around the globe.
“It was really good,” he said. “People like Gary Lineker and all kinds of footballers were talking about it and it was tweeted over 10,000 times around the world.
“People were talking about the Puskas award and stopping me in the street – it was crazy and really good.
“I don’t think I can score another goal better – not even on FIFA!
“I’ve never been to an awards ceremony before so to come away as a winner with an amazing award as well is even better.”
