Marathon Bet Non-League Goal Celebration winner is Darlington

Reece Styche has already netted 21 goals for Darlington in their National League North campaign this season – now he’s gone on to net them a cool £20,000 for his ice-cold celebration.
The former Tamworth striker made the most of the clear-up from the Beast from the East, taking a swandive head-first into a mound of snow banked on the sidelines after scoring against Chorley on January 20.
And it earned the Quakers a cool £20,000 prize from sponsors Marathonbet as the NGA?Goal Celebration of the Year, beating off several other whacky efforts.
It also earned Darlington a showpiece match against Marathonbet’s Legends team – managed by England’s 1966 World Cup hero Geoff Hurst – something Darlington chairman David Johnston said wouldn’t have been possible without the army of volunteers who helped prepare the pitch for the match to go ahead.
“We tweeted out for fans to come down and 200 fans came down and clear the pitch,” said Johnston, collecting the award on the striker’s behalf.
“When Reece scored, he smashed the ball in the top corner, turned and run, and dove headfirst into the snow along with Gary Brown – tremendous celebration but I was a bit concerned because the snow was pretty tight!”
