Town ended with 14 games in April

I WAS interested to read about Redditch United’s fixture pile-up at the end of the 1997-98 season (NLP, February 21).
My local team, Fareham Town, also had a month to remember in April 1997, having to play 14 games, 12 in the league and two in the FA Trophy.
Good runs in the FA Cup and FA Trophy, reaching the first round proper of the former and the semi-final of the latter, meant they played 74 games that season.
The team were so little known nationally that one national newspaper ran an article “Who the hell are Fareham Town”.
