REPLAYS in the FA Trophy look set to be scrapped following a reshuffle put forward by the Football Association.

Unless the FA can be convinced to shelve the idea, a result will need to be reached on the day rather than relying on an extra 90 minutes.

The NLP understands that there was no consultation between the FA and leagues which has left some competitions feeling aggrieved.

A spokesman for the Northern Premier League said: “The Evo-Stik NPL is aware of the proposals but, together with our colleagues in the Isthmian and Southern Leagues, we are consulting with the appropriate bodies at the FA to protect the interests of all our member clubs.”

There has been much talk of a shake-up during this season’s competition.

Before seeing his side go on to win the Trophy at Wembley with a 4-0 win over Gosport Borough, Cambridge boss Richard Money urged the game’s governing to look at the competition’s format because of subsequent fixture pile-ups.

Current rules do allow extra-time before a replay if both clubs agree – as Luton and Wrexham as well as Barnet and Grimsby did this season. But if the scores are still level after 120 minutes there must be a replay.
