It’s 34 degrees celsius in Scott Rendell’s back garden on the day AFC Totton return for pre-season training. Little wonder that the new Stags boss does not regret the decision to hang up his boots at the end of last season.

“And it’s getting warmer,” laughs the 39-year-old, whose six goals in Totton’s first season at Step 2 took his final tally for the Hampshire club to 93 goals in 154 appearances.
