“My phone is going crazy” – Ling reveals huge interest in Leyton Orient job

Leyton Orient director of football Martin Ling says his phone and computer have been going “crazy” due to the number of applications coming in for the club's vacant managerial role.
Orient are struggling in their first National League season, currently languishing in 19th place, and sacked boss Steve Davis on Monday following a run of 11-games with a win.
The likes of Richard Money, Justin Edinburgh and John Still have all been linked with the job, but despite Orient's perilous position, Ling is ready to take his time before appointing Davis' successor.
Speaking to Radio London, the director said: “My phone and computer are going absolutely crazy with people that are interested in the job, which is pleasing.
“We are open-minded and there are some interesting names coming in.
“There is always a period of 48 to 72 hours where the list [of candidates] gets longer.
“Then it is about sitting down, reducing that list, interviewing the people we want to interview and fetching the right man for the job.
“I don't think you can put a definitive timescale on that process as we are determined to get it right and go through the due diligence of finding the right person for the job.”
Following their relegation from League Two in May, there was renewed optimism at Orient heading into the season after a consortium headed by Neil Travis took over and Davis signed a two-year deal.
However, after a promising start to the campaign, the O's have severely struggled, and Ling says he takes some responsibility for the former Crewe boss not being successful.
The 51-year-old said: “There is no doubt that we wanted stability and someone for the long-term.
“I certainly look in the mirror and take some of the blame, as do the owners.
“We always talk about the fact we are a tight-knit unit. If there is a sacking, you all have to take some responsibility.”
