Brightlingsea looking to pull off a shock!

Brightlingsea Regent Chairman Terry Doherty admits that Saturday’s game with Torquay will be a proud day for everyone connected to the club.

Regent welcome Gary Johnson’s side to North Road this weekend for an FA Cup clash as they look to continue their adventure in this year’s competition.

The Step 3 side have already beaten the likes of Cambridge City and Egham Town to reach the Third Qualifying Round for the first time in their history.

“I am so excited for the match because it is going to be an absolutely brilliant occasion” Doherty told The NLP.

He added, “We know that Torquay are likely to bring a large amount of traveling fans and are hoping that the local residents come out and support us.

“I am sure that it will be a brilliant atmosphere and with regards to the result, anything can happen, that is the magic of the cup!”

Brightlinsea have already netted £15,000 in prize money in the competition so far this season and could double their winnings with another victory this weekend.

Doherty said, “To receive that kind of money at this level is absolutely massive and will allow us to really improve aspects of the club.

“Although it would be great to pick up even more prize money on Saturday, we are realistic and know that it will be a very tough challenge.

“The most important thing is that we enjoy the day!”
