Jimmy Gray leaves Southern League strugglers Hendon by ‘mutual consent’

Jimmy Gray has parted company with BetVictor Southern League strugglers Hendon.
Gray’s departure by ‘mutual consent’ was announced on Tuesday with Hendon second from bottom of the Southern League Premier Division South table.
Appointed 18 months ago as the successor to Gary McCann, the former St Albans City boss, pictured, guided the Greens to a 1-0 home win over Swindon Supermarine on the final day of last season to finish three points above the drop zone and secure survival.
His last game in charge proved to be the 4-1 reverse at Whitehawk in the second qualifying round of the Buildbase FA Trophy after Saturday’s trip to Taunton fell foul of the weather.
Officials at Silver Jubilee Park confirmed his departure and the start of their hunt for a successor in a statement on their official website.
The Greens said: “Jimmy, who joined the club in June 2018, faced and ultimately overcame a massive challenge when he arrived with all of the previous season’s backroom staff and first team squad having moved on.
“This season’s results and performances have, however, been disappointing and so it was felt that a change was required in order to give the club the best possible chance of avoiding a second successive relegation struggle.
“We would like to place on record our thanks to Jimmy for all of his hard work – and his honesty throughout – and to wish him all the best for the future.
“A further announcement regarding the appointment of Jimmy’s replacement will be made in due course.”
Gray beat over 25 other candidates to a Hendon hot-seat occupied by McCann for 13 years. As well as managing St Albans City, he also enjoyed a short spell coaching for Gordon Bartlett at Wealdstone.
