Bamber Bridge unveil former Everton midfielder Jamie Milligan as new boss

Bamber Bridge

Bamber Bridge unveiled former Blackpool, Fleetwood and Everton midfielder Jamie Milligan as their new manager on Tuesday night.

The former Brig star was named as the successor to Joey Collins at the BetVictor Northern Premier League Premier Division club following his departure last week.

Collins left The Sir Tom Finney Stadium for personal reasons following a 5-1 win over Wythenshawe Amateurs in the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy.

Still playing, Milligan has been turning out for AFC Blackpool in the North West Counties League after leaving his post as assistant manager of FC United of Manchester at the beginning of 2019.

A familiar face to the Irongate faithful having spent a number of seasons as a Brig player and coach under former boss Neil Reynolds before following him to FCUM, he was a member of their promotion winning side in 2017/18.

The 39-year-old also scored the opening goal for Brig when they lifted the NPL’s League Cup in 2017 after a 2-1 victory over Grantham Town.

DOUBLE ACT: John Hills and Jamie Milligan

Former Blackpool defender John Hills, most recently in interim charge at AFC Fylde alongside Brett Ormerod, was unveiled as Hill’s number two in a club statement and on Brig’s official Twitter account.

Brig said: “Bamber Bridge FC have this evening announced that Jamie Milligan has been appointed to the post of first team manager following the departure last week of Joey Collins.

“The 39 year old former Blackpool, Fleetwood and Everton midfielder has accepted the post with immediate effect.

“The first game for the new management team will be this Saturday when Brig head to the east coast to face Whitby Town in the league. Welcome back Jamie and welcome John.”
