DEFUNCT Shaw Lane are back for one day only this afternoon in memory of tragic former player Dan Wilkinson.

A Shaw Lane Select XI, managed by old boss Craig Elliott, will take on a Brighouse Town Select XI, led by Paul Quinn.

Proceeds from the game will go to the Dan Wilkinson Foundation, which raises awareness of Sudden Cardiac Death in the young and provides funding towards heart screening, defibrillators and CPR/defibrillator training.

Wilkinson tragically died after collapsing on the field in a game against Brighouse Town in September 2016 at the age of just 26.

This afternoon’s match will be played at Brighouse’s Yorkshire Payments Stadium with a 1.30pm kick-off. Entrance is £5 with bar and tea bar available for refreshements.

Shaw Lane Aquaforce was formed in 2012 following a merger between Aquaforce Barnsley and Barugh FC.

Under Elliott, they moved up from Step 7 to Step 3 – and reached the first round proper of the FA Cup – before the club sadly dissolved in 2018.
