BARROW boss Paul Cox reckons the signing of Macclesfield Town skipper Paul Turnbull gives the Bluebirds “something we have been lacking”.
Turnbull, 27, turned down a new deal at the Moss Rose to sign a 12-month deal with Barrow that includes another year's option if a specific number of starts are made.
The central midfielder started his career at Stockport County and made 128 Football League appearances for them between 2005-2011, being made captain at the age of just 21.
A move to Northampton Town didn't work out and following loan spells back with Stockport and at Lincoln City, he signed for Macclesfield in July 2013.
He has been a key member of the Silkmen's engine room over the past three seasons, making 121 appearances and scoring 11 goals, but has now decided to move on.
Barrow's addition of Turnbull follows the signings of strikers Ross Hannah and Richie Bennett, winger Lindon Meikle, central defender Moussa Diarra and full-back Nick Wilmer-Anderton.
Boss Cox described the midfielder as “one of the best quality ball-playing midfielders at the level. Something we have been lacking”.
A Macclesfield statement added: “Macclesfield Town Football Club would like to wish former skipper Paul Turnbull well after the midfielder completed a move to National League side Barrow AFC.
“Turnbull has agreed a one year deal with Barrow and Macclesfield Town would like to thank ‘Bully' for his time at the Moss.
“John Askey will now look elsewhere whilst building his squad for the 2016-17 campaign with further signings expected in the next few days.”
