AMBITIOUS Salford City have been granted planning permission for a redevelopment of their Moor Lane home.
The National League North club, owned by the Class of 92, revealed their plans in October as they look to build on back-to-back promotions on the pitch.
The club want to transform their Moor Lane ground into a 5,108 capacity stadium also featuring a 600 capacity supporters' club.
Two of the Ammies' co-owners, Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville, spoke at a two-hour planning meeting at Salford Council and the planning permission was granted subject to a number of conditions, particularly with relation to traffic.
Local residents had expressed their concerns surrounding the plans, including an increased amount of litter, but Neville said he and the players, if needed, would clear rubbish themselves after matches.
Objectors say they will consider asking for a judicial review and David Mintz, spokesman for the local Kersal Moor residents association, added: “The council has been wowed by celebrity. A thousand residents were consulted. The vast majority objected and this has been ignored.”
