FORMER Paulton Rovers striker Scott Wilson enjoyed the return to his old stomping ground on Monday night as his hat-trick saw Weston-super-Mare make it through in the FA Trophy.

Weston’s first round game against fellow National League South side Wealdstone had been postponed seven times before being moved to Paulton’s Winterfield Road.

And Wilson, the former Paulton and Yate forward, celebrated his homecoming by netting a fine hat-trick that sent Weston through to the second round where they will travel to Grimsby Town on Saturday.

The 23-year-old striker opened the scoring on 17 minutes, speeding away from the Stones’ defence before finishing with a delicious chip via the underside of the bar.

Wilson then doubled the Seagulls’ advantage six minutes later, profiting from a limp flap at Dayle Grubb’s corner by Stones keeper Garry Malone to bundle home from under the crossbar.

Wealdstone looked to have forced a far from ideal replay when Bradley Hudson-Odoi struck twice either side of half time to make it 2-2.

Fortunately for the Seagulls, Wilson was to have the final say. The tireless Joe McClennan whipped in a dangerous cross to the front post and the striker was there to head home to seal his hat-trick – and Weston’s progress through to the second round.
