FORMER Vauxhall Motors and Marine boss Carl Macauley has taken the reins at Evo-Stik NPL Division One North side Witton Albion.

The 45-year-old, who left Marine at the end of February, replaces Scott Dundas at Wincham Park after he was sacked last month.

A Liverpool FC foundation coach, Macauley enjoyed great success in his time at Vauxhall Motors and then took over at Marine following a brief spell as assistant at Chester.

Things didn’t work out at the Mariners and he has returned to management with Witton. The club are 12th in the league after losing their last two league games.

Macauley will officially take over on Thursday and will be assisted by Gary Martindale.

A board statement said: “Witton Albion is pleased to announce the appointment of Carl Macauley and Gary Martindale.

“The short term strategy is to stabilise and improve the dressing room, and over time to build a robust player pathway using the foundation being laid with the Development Squad.

“Carl’s credentials as a coach, for strong discipline and passing football is well established. We wish he and Gary every success.”
