Chesterfield issue

The Chesterfield board of directors say they sympathise with supporters and understand their frustrations following a peaceful protest before Saturday’s game against Basford United in the FA Trophy
The club is now embroiled in another relegation battle to stay in the National League which prompted popular fan Paul Goodwin to organise a protest.
Spireites fans voiced their discontent at how far the club has fallen since their League One play-off defeat in 2015 with back-to-back relegations in the past two seasons.
A few hundred supporters gathered outside the ProAct stadium on Saturday and the Chesterfield board have responded with a statement.
It read: “The board is totally sympathetic with the fans and understands their frustrations.
“The club is currently totally reliant on the financial contributions made by Mr Dave Allen and until which time the club is old, it is difficult to change things.
“The door remains firmly open to potential new owners and the owner will consider all serious offers.
“We continue to support the manager and hope that the fortunes on the pitch are now showing signs of improving.
“This is a tough time for all of us and all we can ask is for you all to continue to support your club.”
