Bees duo buzz off on international duty

ON DUTY: Latvian keeper Rihards Matrevics

's Rihards Matrevics and Antonis Vasiliou will be buzzing this week after both were called up by their countries to fly the flag for the on international duty.
Goalkeeper Matrevics is joining up with Latvia's U21s to take on Poland and Serbia in UEFA European Championship U21 qualifying clashes.
Teenage midfielder Vasiliou will represent Cyprus U19s just three months after signing his first professional contract with the National League's Bees.
Latvian Matrevics arrived at Barnet on a two-year deal in the summer of 2018 following a successful trial. The 20-year-old has already represented Latvia at U17 and U19 level, accumulating 22 caps for his country before receiving his first call-up to the U21s in April.
The towering 6'7 stopper kicked off his career with nine years at SK Babite before moving to London and signing for West Ham United. After becoming a regular U18s starter at Upton Park, he was awarded his Premier League 2 debut for the U23 side last season.

BARNET BOY: Vasiliou is a graduate of the Bees academy

Vasiliou, 19, agreed his first professional contract with the Bees at the end of last season as a graduate of the club's academy after first arriving as a young boy. His two first team appearances both come from the bench last season soon after signing in April.
A Bees spokesperson said: “Everyone at the club would like to congratulate Rihards and Antonis on their achievements and wish them the best of luck with their respective countries.”
