Hills makes instant impact as AFC Fylde caretaker

John Hills and Brett Ormerod guided to a 6-1 win over in the within hours of being appointed as the club's caretaker management team.

Hills, who represented Blackpool, Wednesday and Everton as a player, was unveiled as caretaker boss on Saturday morning ahead of the fourth qualifying round thrashing.

He returned to the Coasters to hold the fort following last Saturday's departure of Dave Challinor after first joining as a player-coach in the 2010/11 season.

As the Coasters continue their hunt for a permanent appointment, Hills will be aided by former Premier League footballer Brett Ormerod, famed for his time at Blackpool where he made 215 appearances and scored 61 times.

“I'm really grateful to both John and Brett coming in and helping us this week,” said AFC chairman David Haythornthwaite in a club statement.

“Whilst our search for a new manager continues, they are playing a vital part in the transition, starting with a very important game today.”

Challinor became the third National League boss to get the chop in 72 hours when he was sensationally sacked last weekend.
Challinor and his number two Colin Woodthorpe were shown the door 48 hours after Ebbsfleet terminated Garry Hill's contract on Thursday and dispensed with the services of Craig Hignett only hours earlier.

The ex-Coasters boss put pen-to-paper on a three year contract extension running until 2021 in June 2018. He oversaw three promotions since arriving from Colwyn Bay in November 2011, including masterminding their rise to the National League as champions in 2016/17.
