GATESHEAD came out on top in a hard-fought encounter at the Rare Breed Meat Co Stadium, edging past Braintree Town to claim a much-needed victory.
The Iron came into the game without a home league win since August 23, while Gateshead were themselves on a run of six league games without a win. But it was the visitors who made the perfect start, striking in just the third minute.
