JOHN ASKEY didn’t get the dream start as York manager, with Paul Cox’s Kettering beating the Minstermen.
York received the first blow in just five minutes, a long throw not dealt with by the red and blue defence and arrowed into the bottom corner by Connor Kennedy.
The Poppies continued to cause a nuisance with their direct football, this time Matty Brown clearing as far as Kennedy who skied over the crossbar.
Rhys Davies then denied Mackenzie Heaney’s curling effort on 25 minutes with a sublime diving save.
