National League North

Match Preview: Brackley Town v Chester (Saturday, 3pm)

Two of the National League North’s meanest defences go head-to-head at St. James Park on Saturday, when Chester visit Brackley Town.

Only one side – Tamworth – has conceded fewer goals than Chester to date: the away side have let in just 34 goals in 44 games.

The Saints have conceded 35 goals in 44 games, giving them the third tightest back line so far this season.

Key to Chester’s home form has been another, who has allowed 0.73 goals past him per 90 minutes, compared to 0.77 for another in the opposite net.

Brackley are third in the table after 44 games, of which they have won 23 and drawn 10, earning 79 points.

Chester are five places behind Town in eighth, with 18 wins and 14 draws putting them on 68 points.

The Saints are in fantastic form in the National League North, with five wins and a draw from their last six games.

With two wins and a draw over that period, the visitors’ form is much worse – they have taken seven points from 18, compared to the home side’s 16.

In the last 10 years, Brackley and Chester have played each other on 12 occasions. Brackley won two of them, Chester three, and they drew seven times.

On average, the Saints scored 0.8 goals and Chester 1.0 in those matches.

Their last meeting was on December 5, when Chester won 1-0 at home.

Brackley’s last match was on April 6, a 2-1 win against Boston United.

Chester beat Gloucester City 6-1 last time out, also on April 6.
