MID-TABLE Darlington and South Shields had little to play for other than local pride but neither team could be pleased about their performance in this drab draw.
Shields almost made a dream start when top scorer Paul Blackett netted after just four minutes, but an offside flag went up and soon Quakers were ahead.
Striker Jack Maskell latched on to Cedric Main’s through-ball and lifted it over goalkeeper Kyle Seymour to score his ninth goal of an encouraging first season in Quakers colours.
