Macclesfield face another stern test against Premier League opposition at the Leasing.com Stadium as their FA Cup fairytale continues into the fourth round against Brentford.

John Rooney’s side may have been crossing their fingers for glamour ties against the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal or Chelsea – with the manager himself even eyeing a return to his birthplace, Liverpool.

However, they have earned another opportunity to knock out a top-flight opposition, this time against Keith Andrews’ Brentford.

The Bees are flying high in fifth place with Brazilian striker Thiago netting 17 goals across all competitions so far this campaign.

Stunned

In his immediate reaction to the draw, Rooney commented: “We said before that we would have liked to get Liverpool, Chelsea, or Arsenal, but another Premier League side is incredible.”

The Silkmen stunned the holders of the competition at the weekend, Crystal Palace, with a 2-1 victory courtesy of goals from skipper Paul Dawson and Isaac Buckley-Ricketts.

Emotions ran high after the final whistle as Wayne Rooney embraced his younger brother to celebrate the remarkable feat his side had just pulled off.

Miracle

And Macc will get the chance to do it all again around the weekend of Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 February 2026, as further information regarding kick-off times and TV selections will be made in due course.

Should they repeat the miracle, the club will pick up an outstanding figure of £127,000 for progressing to the fifth round.

Next up for the National League North is another cup competition, as their attention quickly turns to Woking of the National League in the Isuzu FA Trophy fourth round on Tuesday night.
