Hereford slipped further into the relegation zone with a damaging defeat at home to Southport on Tuesday night.
The Bulls were reduced to ten men when Danny Greenslade committed a foul on the visitors’ Bradley Bauress, conceding a penalty in the process.
Dion Charles scored the spot kick and then Dean Winnard added a second in first-half injury time.
Substitute Jordan Archer netted a third in the second half as Southport leapfrogged Hereford in the relegation zone and are now three points off safety, as are Hereford.
Elsewhere in the North, Chester drew 0-0 at York City. The result moved the Blues up to fourth and one point off top while York are 12th, seven points adrift of the play-offs.
There were four games in National South with Torquay United the big winners, recording a 4-1 victory over St Albans City. Gary Johnson’s side bounced back following defeat in the FA Cup to Woking and are now up to fifth.
Wealdstone moved up to second and two points off leaders Billericay with a 1-0 win at Hemel Hempstead thanks to David Pratt’s first-half strike.
There were also wins for play-off chasers Concord Rangers and DartfordSammy Moore’s Concord have the best home record in the division and Eastbourne Borough were the latest side to lose there, going down 3-0.
FA Cup heroes Oxford City lost 3-2 at Princes Park as Dartford moved into the play-off positions.
