REFEREE Wayne Cartmel took centre stage on a desultory afternoon at Rookery Hill, where quality was in short supply from both sides.
In the first match of the season Cartmel caused huge controversy by awarding Woking a match-winning penalty deep in added time and the East Thurrock crowd were on his back again just six minutes into this match when he dismissed Ricky Hayles for a late, high tackle.
He evened things up 22 minutes later when he sent off Hamlet’s Jay Rich-Baghuelou for elbowing Sam Ashford.
