Match Preview: St Albans City v Worthing (Saturday, 3pm)

Saturday’s match between St Albans City and Worthing promises to be one for the neutrals, as two of the National League South’s most free-scoring sides go head-to-head.

Ahead of the game at Clarence Park, St Albans and Worthing sit joint-fourth and top in the goal-scoring charts, with 72 and 96 goals respectively.

Striker another leads the way for the home side, having bagged 24 goals in their 43 games to date.

And another has been the main man in the opponents’ penalty box for Worthing, with 26 goals.

In the last 10 years, St Albans and Worthing have played each other on six occasions. St Albans won three of them, Worthing one, and they drew twice.

On average, St Albans scored 3.3 goals and Worthing 2.0 in those matches.

Their last meeting was on December 9, when they played out a 4-4 draw.

Worthing are fourth in the table after 44 games, of which they have won 24 and drawn six, earning 78 points.

St Albans are six places behind the away side in 10th, with 19 wins and seven draws putting them on 64 points.

City are in bad form in the National League South, with one win and a draw from their last six games.

With four wins and a draw over that period, Worthing’s form is much better – they have taken 13 points from 18, compared to the hosts’ four.

St Albans’s last match was on April 6, a 1-0 loss against Chippenham Town.

Worthing beat Dartford 2-1 last time out, on Tuesday.
