Hockey star is excited to back Wands

FORMER pro hockey player James Sixsmith says he wants to propel Dorking Wanderers to all new heights after his US-based consortium bought a stake in the National League South outfit.

Sixsmith, 42, played in the US minor leagues for a variety of clubs, and also spent time in Germany and Austria before a seven-year stint in Norway with Lorenskog.

But the Virginian made his millions as a day trader on the stock-market, and in 2015 set up a company, Take Profit Trader, to teach others how to master the art. As of 2020, it had provided more than $7m to aspiring traders.

Now he has returned to sport by buying into Marc White’s Dorking, with business associate Daryl Cumberland set to act as Sixsmith’s representative on the Wanderers board.

In a statement on the club website Sixsmith said: “From my experience in professional sports, I know how far an investment can go for a team with a strong culture.

“My goal with this investment is to propel the club to new heights, and along with the club and Daryl, I’m very much looking forward to working with and supporting the team as a long-term strategic partner.”

Dorking Wanderers’ executive director Kris Lea welcomed the consortium to the club, stating: “We are an ambitious club and always look to bring in enthusiastic, like-minded individuals to help drive us forward.

“We are fortunate to have a large ownership group that continues to support our growth to date.

“We look forward to the contribution of Daryl, James and the wider team as we continue to build both on and off the pitch – with our primary objective clear: taking Dorking Wanderers into the Football League.”
