EXPERIENCED former Premier League forward Lee Hughes has signed for Evo-Stik NPL Premier side Ilkeston.

The 39-year-old ended last term in the Conference with first club Kidderminster Harriers after beginning it with league rivals Forest Green Rovers.

Hughes impressed Robins boss Gavin Strachan in two recent friendlies against Gresley and Belper Town, scoring in both.

The former Premier League striker with West Brom has scored over 300 goals for the likes of Coventry, Oldham, Notts County and Port Vale in a career that began back in 1994.

Strachan said: “We have a young squad here at Ilkeston and Lee will add that bit of experience to the side and help guide the players on the pitch.”

The Robins begin their Evo-Stik NPL Premier campaign on Saturday as they welcome Skelmersdale United.
