DAVENTRY TOWN were unable to name any substitutes for their 2-1 loss at Chasetown on Saturday with the club confirming they are under a transfer embargo.

Darran Foster’s side are still sitting comfortably in mid-table in the Evo-Stik NPL Division One South but the news is far from ideal with a number of injuries to his squad.

Kieran Fitzgerald, Nabil Shariff and Jon Bukasa are all on the treatment table and Foster’s assistant Neil Champelovier had to play against Chasetown – his first full 90 minutes for years.

Prior to kick-off, Daventry confirmed: “The Town have had a transfer embargo imposed on them. All this means, Town have no players on the bench today. financialregulations.”

The club’s coffers have not been aided by the fact that they have played only one home game in eight weeks due to the terrible weather.

And boss Foster says something must change with his squad down to the bare bones ahead of Saturday’s visit of high-flying Coalville Town.

“My assistant manager Neil Champelovier was playing his first full game for some years but it was never a problem because he never once looked out of place,” Foster said.

“As for the registration embargo, I only hope it will be lifted shortly because this bunch of lads do not deserve to crumble and fall away into a relegation battle after such a promising start to the season. The bottom line is that we need to sign players as the squad at this level cannot be sustained.

“With Kieran Fitzgerald (hamsting), Nabil Shariff (chest), Jon Bukasa (Dentist op) and KB in South Africa I have ten squad players available plus Neil Champelovier so I can only hope the league will support us with allowing us to sign a couple of players very soon but I honestly do not hold out too much hope.

“We’ve got another chance for a home game this Saturday against high-flying Coalville. The forecast again is not the best but fingers crossed we can manage to get the game on.

“If ever there was a time the club needs the support of the local football community I believe it is now. Everyone at the club is hoping we can get the game on and a good crowd comes out to support the team and the club.

“It is not my place to comment on things going on off the pitch, I am just trying to keep 11 players on the field.”
