MICKLEOVER SPORTS joint-managers Craig Hopkins and Glenn Kirkwood have resigned after keeping the club in the Evo-Stik NPL Premier.

The pair joined Sports in 2012 from Heanor and transformed the club, taking them to the NPL Division One South play-offs in 2013-14 where they were beaten by Belper Town.

However, they went one further last season and won the league title in style, scoring over 100 goals in the process to earn a spot at Step 3.

It was a tough debut season in the NPL Premier for the Derbyshire outfit but they managed to survive, finishing one place and one point above the relegation places.

Despite that achievement, Hopkins and Kirkwood have decided to step away from the club to spend more time with their families.

Hopkins said: “Kirky and I would like to thank everybody at the club for everything they have done over the last three-and-a-half years.

“Mickleover Sports has moved forward due to the hard work and determination of everybody at the club. From the committee who have worked tirelessly to provide us a budget to improve the team to the volunteers who give up their time and Dan the groundsman who is often working on the pitch when everybody else is in bed.

“The supporters have stuck with us in a difficult season, and the players have been a pleasure to manage. I hope we have not missed anybody out.

“We wish everybody at Sports, and the football club itself, all the best for the future, and I’m sure our paths will cross again at some point.”
