DAVE FRECKLINGTON has returned to Spalding United as their new manager just days after leaving league rivals Lincoln United.

Frecklington walked away from the Whites at the end of last week following three seasons at the club which ended with defeat in the Evo-Stik NPL South play-offs to Shaw Lane Aquaforce last month.

He didn’t have to wait long for a return to the dugout, however, being named as Spalding’s new boss on Sunday, replacing Marcus Ebdon who left at the end of the season.

Frecklington is no stranger to the Tulips having represented the club as a no-nonsense midfielder in the late 1990s and has signed a three-year deal to return as manager.

He said: “I am delighted to be given the opportunity to manage a club which I enjoyed success with as a player, particularly winning four trophies in the 1998-99 season.

“The interest shown to me over the past week has been tremendous. The drive and ambition of the club is the same as mine. It is a fresh challenge for us both which I am really looking forward to.”

Club official Andrew Gay added: “We are delighted to welcome Dave back to the club.

“From the outset of our first meeting we felt he was singing from the same hymn-sheet as us, ticking all the right boxes. The outcome was we had no hesitation in offering him the job.

“He has had three very successful seasons with Lincoln United and we look to him to replicate that success here. We look forward to a solid working partnership.”
