SPENNYMOOR TOWN have continued their impressive summer recruitment, signing former Hartlepool United and Dover Athletic keeper Andy Rafferty.

The 28-year-old started his career in the North East with Darlington before moving to Hartlepool following spells in Non-League with Crook Town and Guisborough Town.

He spent four years with the Pools but only made seven appearances after suffering a broken hand and a bad knee injury during his time at Victoria Park.

Rafferty dropped back into Non-League in September 2014 to sign for National League side Dover Athletic and was part of the squad that finished fifth in the league last season.

Spennymoor boss Jay Ainsley told the club’s website: “We’re thrilled to have signed Andrew on a two-year deal.

“He was looking to relocate back to the North East and as soon as I heard this it was important that I showed an interest in him.

“Andy is a massive presence and, having played more than 50 Conference games, gives us the experience that we’ll need going into a tough season.

“With Dan Lowson and now Andy, we have two exceptional goalkeepers who I believe will bring each other’s game on tremendously and I look forward to working with him over the next two seasons.”
