CALLUM BALL admits his excellent start to life at Evo-Stik NPL Premier side Barwell has rekindled his love for football.

The former Derby County and Coventry City striker struggled during two spells with Corby Town before joining the Canaries in October.

The 24-year-old haunted his old side on Saturday, scoring the opener in Barwell’s 2-0 win at Steel Park, to take his tally to three goals in five matches in all competitions.

Despite his impressive return in front of goal, the frontman was keen to credit the turnaround in results to the close-knit squad manager Jimmy Ginnelly has assembled.

Ball said: “I’m enjoying my football again and have had a good start to my time with Barwell It’s a great group of lads, with everyone living locally, which really helps with team spirit.

“Everybody works hard for the cause and we’re all looking to win football matches. It’s not all about me scoring goals, that’s just my part of job being a striker, but it certainly feels nice to be back scoring again.”

With matches to come at home to struggling Skelmersdale United and Sutton Coldfield Town, Ball is hoping an extension to the winning run can guide the Canaries even further up the table.

“We aren’t looking too far up the table, but it is something that is achievable,” the striker replied when asked whether the side can move into the top half by Christmas.

“If we keep picking up the right results and others don’t then we could end up being in and around the play-offs by the end of the season.

“It’s a funny league, with teams winning at both ends of the table. We were in the bottom five only a few games ago, yet now we aren’t far from the top ten.”
