EDWIN STEIN has left Banbury United after a 5-0 home thrashing against Cirencester Town yesterday left them bottom of the Southern Premier without a point to their name.

Stein left the job this morning and had been in charge of the Puritans since September 2012. The club finished 19th last season.

Banbury had endured a miserable start to the season, losing all six of their opening games, scoring three times and conceding 15. Paul Davis, who had a spell at the club coaching under Stein, will take over the reins for Saturday’s trip to Frome Town.

A club statement said: “The club can confirm following yesterday’s home defeat to Cirencester Town that Edwin Stein has resigned as manager of the club

“The club would like to place on record their appreciation of the work and effort that Edwin has put in over the last two years in very difficult circumstances and wish him all the best in the future.

“Former Oxford City, Witney Town, Banbury United and Didcot Town coach and Abingdon Town manager Paul Davis will be in charge of team affairs at Frome Town on Saturday.

“Further statements regarding the management position in the long term will be made in due course.”
