REDDITCH UNITED have paid tribute to vice-chairman Sallie Swan after she passed away following a long battle with cancer.

Swan, the wife of Reds chairman Chris, lost her fight on Friday, April 15 and leaves a “deep hole” at the Worcestershire club.

Redditch's game against on Saturday was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch but the club's junior teams held a minute's silence before their games on Sunday.

A Redditch statement read: “Sallie Swan passed peacefully in the presence of friends and family on April 15 following a long battle with cancer. Throughout it all she retained her wicked sense of humour and love of everything dear to her including Redditch United for which she cared for deeply.

“Chris, Craig, Tom, Lara and Dan would like to thank the heartfelt warmth from the Redditch United community and also deeply thank Macmillan, Marie Curie and the Stratford Hospice for their deep care. There is a deep hole in our lives as we remember a special lady.”

chairman Ken Turner added: “I am sure that everyone connected with the Southern League and the wider community will wish to join me in expressing heartfelt sadness on hearing the news that Sallie Swan, vice-chairman of Redditch United and wife of chairman Chris, passed away on April 15 after a long illness.

“Our sincere condolences go to Chris, his family, friends, and everyone at the club.”

The Southern League Premier club beat 2-1 on Monday night to all but guarantee themselves a spot in the play-offs.
