CHIPPENHAM TOWN boss Mark Collier says desire has played a big part in the club’s brilliant seasons so far after Town chalked up their 100th goal of the campaign.

The Bluebirds extended their unbeaten run to 17 games and brought up their century of goals in the 2-1 win at Basingstoke Town on Saturday.

Matt Smith and veteran Andy Sandell got the goals that meant Chippenham retained their seven-point lead at the top of the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier.

Collier’s side have scored a league best 76 goals – with experienced duo Sandell and David Pratt accounting for 44 of them – with their tally in all competitions now at three figures.

The Bluebirds clearly have plenty of attacking talent but boss Collier says it’s the work ethic of his frontmen that has led to their fantastic goal record as they look to secure promotion to Step 2.

“We’ve got good attacking players and players that have got the desire to get forward, run into the channels and make things happen,” Collier told CTFC TV.

“I pulled (Matt) Smith aside before the game (on Saturday) and told him ‘I want you to get back to yourself’, to be positive and hurt defences.

“We’ve scored goals from all over the pitch. Will Richards has got eight or nine from centre-back and he could have got a couple more (on Saturday).

“We’ve had a desire to go and get on the end of crosses, work hard and make chances and when we’ve done that, we’ve scored. I didn’t know we’d scored 100 but it’s a decent record!”
