Basingstoke Town chairman Kevin White: Now’s the time for a restructure

chairman Kevin White insists The FA should carry out their pyramid restructure to reduce the travelling costs on clubs at a crucial time.

An eighth Step 4 division in the North is due to be created which would result in a reshuffle among other leagues.

White says Basingstoke face round trips of over 300 miles in the with 70 per cent of their away games being more than 125 miles.

Travelling costs the club in the region of £8,000 to £10,000 and White is concerned the dis-tances also put off travelling support.

“Now is the perfect time to be working on the restructure of Steps 3-6 in a bid to make it more regionalised,” White said in a statement.

“It's the perfect time to remove the pressure that is put on clubs and fans alike to travel such lengthy journeys to play and support. There has always been a need to restructure to ease pressure in terms of travel – but the situation clubs have found themselves in over the course of the past 12 months, there needs to be a lifeline handed out and this would be a way of doing it.”
